Taking Ownership of Your Failures
Our standards for internet reporting, particularly on technology, have been set pretty low. TechCrunch has a scatter shot mentality of several misses for every hit yet are still viewed as a credible source. The majority of content is reblogging. Many sources remain anonymous and without credentials. Libel and misinformation runs rampant.
Still there are a few sources that stand out, my personal favorite is daring fireball. His reporting is thoughtful and concise and he is frequently right. Just this past week however he was dead wrong. I’m willing to let a few bad calls slide, reporting is a tricky task, but, not wanting to tread anywhere near the rumor mills of internet reporting, John has formally owned up and apologized proving that not all internet tech reporters act like Arrington.
